I am learning along my academic and professional evolution that I thrive in an environment that emphasizes learning and academic excellence. Therefore, it comes as no surprise that I decided on a profession in education. I am a life long learner who realizes the more I "learn" the more I have yet to discover.
I believe knowledge should be available to all and try to instruct in an accessible and understandable manner. As a result, I continue to connect students with real world experiences.
Courses Offered by Doctor Smith:
Photoshop
Grades: 9, 10, 11, 12
Photoshop Creative Cloud is intended for a course that offers an introduction to photoshop and image editing. No previous experience in Adobe Photoshop is needed. In this class fundamentals and more advanced features in Photoshop are used.
Supervised Business Experience (SBE)
Grades: 11,12
The SBE program provides on-the-job work experience that gives students the opportunity to master academic and workplace skills. Students can make connections with real world expectations in terms of accuracy of work, production, staying on task, responsibility for work--all components which are emphasized in the business classroom setting. The work experience reinforces the importance of interpersonal skills, decision making, problem solving, critical thinking, and teamwork skills. The instruction received in the classroom and experience gained on the job complement one another. This complementary component is why it is important that the teacher providing the in-class instruction is the teacher supervising the student.
Business Tech 1
Grades: 9, 10, 11, 12
Business Tech 1 is a course designed for students who want to obtain employment in a business are upon graduation or who plan to further their education in business school or college. The course develops marketable skills using current procedures and technologies. Students develop an understanding of business and its contribution to economics and industrial efficiency, and understand the business world.
Video Production
Grades: 9, 10, 11, 12
Adobe Premiere Pro Creative Cloud is intended for a course that offers an introduction to Video editing. No previous experience with Adobe Premiere Pro Creative Cloud is assumed. This program is to teach fundamentals and more advanced features of Adobe Premiere Pro. Exposes students to video editing and graphic design.
Introduction to Business
Grades: 9, 10, 11, 12
This course is designed to introduce students to how businesses function in today's society. During the semester, students will develop a foundation in such general business concepts as: economics, finance, accounting, business law, marketing, and entrepreneurship.
Digital Media Productions
Grades: 9, 10, 11, 12
This is an advanced multimedia production course with emphasis in the areas of Video Production, Photoshop and 3-D Animation. Students will work independently and in teams supporting Dragon’s Lair Productions (DLP) in the design, development and production of media related products and services. This is an extremely fast paced and hands-on work environment whereby successful time management and meeting production deadlines are key to success.
Adv. Graphic Design
Grades: 9, 10, 11, 12
This repeatable semester course affords students the opportunity to explore the elements and principles of two and three-dimensional (3D) graphic design. Advanced Graphic Design integrates design principles and software, typography, digital illustration, digital imaging, page layout, and prepress techniques with emphasis on design process from visualization to production.
